I am writing a Script that needs to update a multi-value field.  Does anyone have an example of a script that will efficiently update the field with *UNIQUE* values? (i.e., if a particular value in the field already exists, don't add it--otherwise, add it)

Try using while loop.
Check if the value already exist if yes set flag.
Out of the loop check if the flag is set and then add the value to the field.
It's very simple - just 5-6 lines of code.

See my comments above.
Hope you would be able to do that.
Please contact me tmanoj@in.ibm.com if you can't do that.
