I experienced this problem today as well. It was resolved by changing the ODBC configuration on the client. The entry I changed was in the 'Server' section of  the 'ODBC SQL Server Setup' dialog.

My original entry was '\\MyDbServer' (without the quotes) - where MyDbServer is the network name of the machine that SQL Server resides on.

I changed it to 'MyDbServer' and the error disappeared. If that's not it, I would first verify that the other entries in the  'ODBC SQL Server Setup' dialog are correct.

I still get the same error. Is there any way you could give me a screen shot of the server odbc setup for sql and the client odbc setup for sql to see if I am missing anything or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.
