3d animation

I really like 3d efects in games and so on. Is it possible to make something relistic? My dream is to make presentation there all action is in space (for examle, free flying in space near rocks, planets and stars). Think about 'Star wars' and you will anderstand me :)). I heard about that in 3D STUDIO I can make something. Is it true???

Hi,
Yes it is true, but you need to spent much time to learn.
I'll mention the best 3d applications in the industry.

Best Modeling Program (the program for creating the 3d models [planets, spaceships...]
Maya (by Alias Wavefront) http://www.aw.cgi.com

Best Animation Program (the program that moves the objects [planets, spaceships...]
Softimage3d (by Microsoft) http://www.softimage.com/

Best Render Program (the program that creates the images, animations.)
Renderman

All the above programs are the best Programs. You can do Modeling,Anomation,Rendering, with all the above programs.

Second class programs, are:

3D Studio Max2 (great modeling (one of the best), very good animation, not that good rendering, many-many effects(such as lens flares, volumetric particles...)and very heavy app) http://www.kinetix.com

Lightwave3D (good modeling, good animation, one of the best rendering engines, very -very light program) http://www.newtek.com

As you see it is not a simple question. If you need to make space thinks, then try 3D Studio Max (have many plugins). I work with lightwave3D.

I hope i have helped you.

Sincerely
Andreas

I have worked in Maya, SoftImage, and Alias but continuously gravitate back to 3DSMax. My reasons:

All three of the "Big Dogs" cost upwards of 10-30,000 dollars. All three are memory hogs and require a serious investment in hardware to run. All three require many, many months if not years to master.

3DSMax though carrying a price tag of $3000 to $3500 will do a great job at most any broadcast and if needed film quality graphics without a lot of cash investment. 3DSMax is open architecture, which means plugins appear almost daily on the internet. Even huge companies like Blur Studios post all of their plugins for free. Look at movies like Armegeddon and Lost IN Space, and you will have seen Max at work.

Also, there are probably about 40 books on the market dealing with 3DS Max. With Maya you have none, Softimage has 2, and Alias, none (you can however purchase then entire manual set for $300 from Journey Educational Software.)
