Hi all. I have some HTML experience, but I need to buy some software that will help me make professional-looking web pages.

My question is... what will help me make great web pages?

Thanks...

Out of my heart I will tell you Windows Notepad, but I am assuming that isn't what you had in mind.  Personnally I use either Microsoft FrontPage or Microsoft Interdev, and have found them to be very useful in creating fairly good looking pages, nothing compared to what I can do in notepad though.

I don't think I've heard of Interdev??  What exactly does it do?? I am getting Front Page soon I think so I will have to try that out.  I actually do usually use notepad (everything else seems like cheating! :)

Another thing I'd want to make are some really nice images, and I have no idea how to go about doing this.

Interdev is part of the Microsft Visual Studio suite, which is a combination of Visual C++, Basic, Interdev, J++, and SourceSafe, each one designed for a different language, thus the names.  Interdev is designed for internet development, HTML, ASP, VBSCRIPT, JSCRIPT, etc.  It is pretty much a really advanced notepad, the reason i use it so much.  It has a What-you-see-is-what-you-get editor and a plain text editor.  The part i like is that it creates nice clean HTML, and doesn't change your HTML to its likings, unlike frontpage.  It also has some nice wizards to aid you in the trivial tasks like tables, and lists, etc.

About the images, frontpage will use some if its images to create neat headings and so forth, but isn't a image editor.  I don't do much editing but have heard that adobe makes something good.

hay tenzin, well you can go to www.apple.com and go to software and then click on Claris Works and it takes you to the page where you can dowload a web making software for free, it works, 'cause I already did it and some people think that I have the best lookin page on the internet. Whene you make your site, you won't have at the beggining of you URL address a sponser,( eg. www.geocities.com/blah/blah/blah)  and your site wont have that irrigating "a word from our sponsers" and stuff like that. So, I hope I can help you

Another good item of software is Homesite 4.0, I wouldn't go near Frontpage if your doing any ASP because it can sometimes quite dramatically change the coding for the worse !
