The Dig - no sound under Win98

Switched from Win95 to Win98.  LucasArts "The DIG" won't make sound.  Their tech support folks claim that I need to run a DOS mixer program to boost the sound volume.  Does anybody out there have one that will work with the Yamaha DS-XG sound that comes onboard the Intel Seattle SE440BX2 motherboard?  Or is there a different way to get sound from The Dig?  Its sound setup utility detected it as a SoundBlasterPro, but no sound during test.  Thanks!

You might want to try making a bootdisk.  If that doesn't work, try to alternate the sound preferences(type, I/Q, etc.) in the installation screen.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I already made a bootdisk.  Still no sound.  I tried all the possible options in the sound setup - only one that doesn't lock up is SBPro, but no sound.  Any other ideas?
The "Sound Blaster Pro" selection rarely works with any card other than a Sound Blaster Pro.  To solve this problem, I set the %BLASTER% environment variable in my autoexec.bat and load the Real Mode drivers also.  For The Dig I also run regular Sound Blaster (even though its a Sound BLaster PCI 128 from Ensoniq).  Hold down the ALT key and double click "My Computer", and explore the "Device Manager".  Your sound card should be listed.  Check its properties to see its IRQ, DMA, and I/O Port.  For example, mine's I/O Port Address is 220, DMA 1, and IRQ 7.  It doesnt matter what value they are, just simply as long as you know them.  Then simply open c:\autoexec.bat with notepad and add the environment variable.  For example, with my card I have this line in my autoexec.bat file...
SET BLASTER = A220 IRQ7 DMA1
then run The Dig's setup program again, this time selecting a regular Sound Blaster and test it.  You should hear sound.  If you need to enter in values for I/O Port Address, IRQ, or DMA, then the environment variable is not needed for The Dig, but it certainly wont hurt with other Real Mode games.

I already tried all that before posting this question.  LucasArts tech support said that it was probably a volume issue and suggested that I get a DOS mixer program to adjust volume level.  I'm using an Intel motherboard with on-board Yamaha DS-XG sound.

coreyfro-
I tried Yamaha's website and couldn't find anything.  If it's there, could you please send me the URL.  Thanks!
