How do I make my icons for .bmp files have the picture of the thing in the file instead of the windows paint icon?

Type "regedit" (no quotes)  in Start >  run  and search for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Paint.Picture/DefaultIcon  Then click "default" and change the value there to "%1" (no quotes).

I have no idea what that did, but it worked.  I thought I would just ask this question as a long shot, you people really know your stuff!

It was actually a pretty easy question if you have "The Registry FAQ".  A file of howto information available at download.com.  It has all kinds of tips on little known windows configuration info  like this.
