"system error problem"
Performa 6205CD,OS 8, 48mb: I crashed while Iomega Jaz cookie attempted to contact Iomega to register new Jaz drive (as part of the Iomega procedure after installing drive and software). Immediate restart, but no rebuild at that time.Later that day when attempting to open Netscape 4.08 from desktop icon, following warning: "System error occured while executing an internet scripting command." The internet dialer did not connect. Same when I tried to connect using desktop email (Claris Lite 1). Both apps do connect perfectly from icon in Internet Apps folder.Apps are not damaged.
Find file shows Internet Scripting Addn Prefs in Systems Preferences folder. Tech Tool Pro 2.1.1. fails to detect ANY problems in any Systems or Finder files!
Query: is it likely the Internet Scripting Addn Preferences are corrupted (possibly from crash earlier that day)? If I trash these preferences, will they automatically reappear after a restart? How do I correct to make destop icons again responsive to double click?

Hello Paulvaneykelen: This problem turns out to be more complicated than I thought. The desktop icons needed simply to be trashed and replaced by new Netscape and Emailer icons. Indeed, I can now dial up from the desktop icons by dble-clicking. However, I find that I cannot use the "connect to" item from the Apple Menu (a Mac OS 8 item), nor can I use the Apple Data Detectors: both fail to perform, and both worked perfectly before that crash I mentioned.
I'm at a loss: I like and use the Apple Data Detector utility, although I never found the "connect to" particularly useful.
Do you think I should just trash the Apple Data Detector utility and download it again from the Apple Software site???
I realize I have moved off the first question I posed, but I'm only learning the true dimensions of that crash last week. I've yet to call Iomega back. I will certainly trash their connection icon in their folder.....Too bad SyQuest folded, I liked their product. JBeiss
