PER LW printer driver download?

The driver for my personal laser writer NTR has disappeared from my chooser & I can't use my printer. I am using system 7.5.1 on a 7500/100 PowerPC. Where can I download (or otherwise obtain) a driver to place in my extension folder? I have searched throughout my hard drive using "find" and looked in disabled extensions also . . . no luck.

Assuming you have the system disc for your computer, reinstall the printer software -- the driver for your printer is a part of the OS.  If you don't have the OS C.D. (or discs), you'll either have to borrow them or buy a new OS.

Thanks for your quick response. I have borrowed a Mac OS 7.6 CD for the purpose you recommend. Now I can't seem to find printer drivers on it (even in the "customized" choice. Any suggestions?

Oh yes, the printer is connected to my computer vis the ADB printer port.

You say that you are connected to me ADB port -- don't you mean the serial port?

I don't have a 7.6 CD, but in my OS 7.5 CD, when I click on Custom Install and then expand the Printing category, the printer drivers are listed.  Isn't the Personal LW NTR an Appletalk printer?  If so, it will use the Laserwriter driver.

Thanks again. Yes, it is the serial (printer) port. I tried the Laserwriter, Laserwriter 8.0, and Postscript printer drivers, but to no avail.  Perhaps the driver is not the problem, although I checked and everything is plugged in properly and all indicator lights on the printer are normal. I have yet to try the printer's self-diagnosis and will check out the custom install OS7.6 CD again. If I get it figured out, I will let you know how.

Are you using a serial cable or Localtalk/Phonenet connectors?  If using a cable, you might try replacing it.  If using Localtalk, it's possible one of the connectors is bad -- I've run in to that several times.  If the Laserwriter driver is showing up in the Chooser window, but the printer is not showing up in the selector box, I would suspect a bad connection. (Don't forget -- you have to be connected to the printer port on the Mac, not the modem port.)  Hope you find the problem soon!
