What is the difference between parent.frames and top.frames?

The difference is between "parent" and "top". "parent" refers to the immediate parent. "top" refers to the very top frame or window. So, if you have frame C within frame B within frame A, then:

C.parent.frames = array containing C
C.top.frames = array containing B
