avi file problems

I downloaded couple of avi's and i can't view them because i got some decompresor 1263 error. Then i downloaded something called codinstl.exe, i have installed but my avi's still dont work. My question is what do i have to do with codinstl.exe and what is indeo5 got to do with it.
