does anyone have example code using the waveOut or ActiveSound API to play a file?  I'm building a audio server which will accept client connections and pump data off the socket out the audio device.  Thanks

Check out the Audio Sample "Reverse: Using Low-level Waveform Playback Services" that comes with the Platform SDK or Visual C++. And there is a technical article "Recording and Playing Waveform Audio" in the MSDN Library. Check it out on MSDN CDs or view the online version at http://premium.microsoft.com/msdn/library/techart/msdn_spellit.htm (you need to register first).
