You almost always want to use Catagory 5 or 7 for your twisted pair data network. You can use Catagory 3, that is usuly used for telephone. You still need to get the cable to your patch panel to make your data connection.You won't be able to use high speed for your data using cat 3. The cable should not need to be shielded but the resistance part you won't like if you are going to run at high speeds. You could run your cables on the surface, down the wall in wire mold or use the telephone cable as a pull string if not accessable. &nbsp; <br />
