Outlook Express/Newsgroups SLOWWWWW....

My outlook Express is running ungodly slow when using the Newsgroups.  I have tried Purging the Message Folders, Cleanup, and the whole bit.  Nothing helped.
I've tried compacting the folders.  No good.

Anyone seen this before?  Any ideas on how to speed things
up?

How much RAM do you have?  If you have less than 64 you will have this problem.  Also, if you have told it to delete messages in the bacjground, and you have deleted read messages selected, then, while you are working it is trying to purge everything you have done.  I use Outlook 5 Beta 2, and 4.0 and 5.0 both do the same things.

The speed of the newsgroups has nothing to do with your local machine.  99% of the speed is based upon the NNTP server you are connecting with.  The more users and traffic the less speed.  Technically there is nothing you can do to speed this up.

Don't listen to this mwhitworth guy, he hasn't understood the question... (No offence meant mwhitworth), but it's because of some weird corruption in those datafiles of yours.... The only sollution is to reinstall outlook express. So far as i can see, it has hidden data somewhere, that tells the program where to find the folders, and which folders to find, so it keeps looking. It happens to me everytime i have more than a few thousand (10+) messages on my comp.....

Hope you can use this :-)

  Yours sincerely
