Creative labs has a web site with developer support and sample source code, sound files, etc.
Try
http://developer.soundblaster.com/

That might be the wrong site.  Try looking on yahoo.  There is--or at least was--a huge site they maintained full of stuff, sample programs in many languages, sample sounds, documenation lots of stuff.  All for free.  At least at the time.

Here you can get sample code complete with the driver and all commented!
it's just a single self-extracting file.
