Hello,
I am having a system with a old ISA Sound Blaster 16 sound card. I have just ordered a set of big speakers (Altec lansing acs 48 - 2 speakers and a subwoofer).

My question is - If I want to enjoy optimal Cd-Audio & mp3 music (I don't care about midi or games music), should I replace my soundcard ?
Does the wave channel (where mp3 are heard from) and cd audio channel are almost the same in all the sound cards or they vary alot?

Thanks Alot,

Yes, the SB16 is just that, 16-bit.  The newer AWE32 and competitors have 32-bit D/A (digital to analog) conversion capability.  If the source material is better than 16 bit (as CDs are) then you will get better sound from a 32 bit sound board.  If the source material is <= 16 bit, then there will be no difference.

At the price of an AWE32 or clone, there's no reason to wait.

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought that cd audio is 16bit...

No, CD audio is 24-bit.
