How do you make a browser ask for a password
to make part of your site restricted to members?

The easiest to use that has any kind of *encryption* is at:

http://members.xoom.com/yoboseyo/js/login/pass3.htm

This script allows you to type in user names and passwords, then it writes and *encrypts* the script and html for you!  All you need to do is copy and paste.

WARNING!  There is no javascript that is totally safe from cracking, but this is the best I've seen.

The browser cannot *make* a password entry dialog.  I think you must be asking for something that works like the password dialog that appears when logging onto Experts-Exchange?  If so, this is done entirely on the server, and usually done with PERL, rather than Javascript.

I have not been to a porn site, so I do not know what type they use, but I assume it would be the same type (server-side) as I mentioned above.  That is the best way, for security reasons.
