Urgent : Multimedia Query

I want to do GSM compression of .wav file. I want to use acm driver multimedia functions. I am having a windows sample application(ACMAPP)that comes with MSDN CD, for the GSM compression of a .wav file. But that application is very complex and I couldn't understand it well.

Will anybody please give me another application source to perform GSM compression of a .wav file using acm driver multimedia API ?
Or can anybody suggest how to solve the problem ?

There is a technical article "Using CODECs to Compress Wave Audio
" that comes with a sample in the MSDN Library(Technical Articles\Multimedia). The online version is at http://premium.microsoft.com/msdn/library/techart/msdn_codec.htm.
