Does Sybase System 11 have functions which are equivalent to Microsoft SQL Server's IsDate and IsNumeric functions?  In MS SQL Server you can pass a text string to IsDate and find out if it is valid before you try to do a convert() on it.

No, ASE 11.x does not have IsDate() or IsNumeric() functions.

About the closest you can get to IsDate() is to use "set arithabort off" and then use convert().  If you get an error returned, then it is not a valid date.

The next release (12.0) is expected to support JAVA within the server, which will allow you to write your own functions.
