anybody know how to make a text hyperlink without it beong underlined ??? (and without using javascript) i.e. an attribute of the <a> tag.

No.  This is done with CSS.  IE3.x claimed to be CSS compliant, which it was in some cases, but I don't think eith work.  There are no other ways to get it to work though.  But, you could always use graphics :)
