Disabling the desktop printer?

I'm running OS 8.5, and want to permanently disable the desktop printer but still print... how do I do it?  I'm on an ethernet network... thanks.

remove ALL "desktop printer" extensions from the extensions folder. Its as easy as that. To print you go to your chooser (in the apple menu) and select your printer and its options. Go back to your program and choose print.
