Error writing to LPT1
Since my husband re-installed NT4.0 workstation - he no longer has any DOS commands and cannot print. He always gets the following error:
error writing to LPT1: for Document Microsoft Word filename: the system cannot find the specified file.
Cannot print from any application.. Have changed out cables, changed printers - no luck! Is the board bad? Or are we missing library files?

Did you look in your bios if the parallel port wasn't disable or re-allocated to some other devices.

CMOS settings were first thing I checked. Not disabled or
re-allocated to any other device. No other driver seems to be
disabling this. Printer works fine attached to another computer.

Did you install the correct printer driver, and is the printer online?
ASKER
Printer drivers were re-installed many times and printer is on-line.
First, boot from a DOS boot disk and send a print job from Edit to lpt1, if this works then the hardware is ok. Next boot NT, check that the Parport device has started, if not start it and run a print test. If Device is ok check that the LPT1 port is checked in the printer properties and that permissions are properly set. When you re-installed did you blow away the entire system? if so any old version of dos is gone, use the MKS Toolkit and Caldera's DOs 7.02 for dos/unix command line operations.
