>> win98 resets or blue screen when CD inserted <<
I have win 98 1 cd rom hitachi and cd-r mitsumi 2801te. I had some cdr software installed on my system and everything worked ok, then I tried to install some other cdr software and when it asked to reboot windows did not finish loading ,so I knew there was a problem with that software. I uninstalled it and win started to work but now when i insert cd into cdrom or cdr my system reboots or I get a blue screen. I have unistalled all cdr software and reinstalled win but nothing helped yet. What else can I try to fix this

No, it did not work. What now?
Okay, here goes. (this is non-destructive and will not damage your applications or their files)
1. Make sure that the Windows 98 Boot Disk that you made when loading Windows 98 works and that you have CD Rom access when you choose that option when booting to that floppy. If you're uncertain, test it. If it doesn't work, let me know and we'll try and fix it. Presuming that it does, let's go to #2.
2. Make sure that both forms of the cd-r software you were using have been uninstalled, and their files and folders removed from the system.
3. Boot the system to the Win98 boot disk, and then insert the Win98 cd disk into the cd drive. At the Dos prompt, type D:\Setup or substitute your cd rom drive letter if it's not "D". This will caused Windows to rebuild both the IO.SYS, IOS.SYS and the VMM32.VXD files. Make sure that when you do this load that you choose either typical or custom as you did when you loaded 98 originally.

I have tried to reinstall windows and it did not work that way. Well I had to delete entire windows dir and install it again. Thanks anyway
What prevented the reinstallation?
ASKER
nothing prevented installation, simply reinstalling did not fix the problem.
Okay, we need some clarification here. You said, "I have tried to reinstall windows and it did not work that way. Well I had to delete entire windows dir and install it again. Thanks anyway.
Why did you have to delete the Windows directory, what went wrong. The load over should have went through without a problem.

ASKER
well, Reinstalling windows over the old one did not help. So I deleted win dir and installed it again , it worked that way.
So your system problems are now resolved?
ASKER
yes sir it is.
Okayyyy, so how would you like to resolve this question then?
ASKER
I rate it good and keep the points
Not busting your chops, just wanted to make sure all was indeed fixed.
