Hi, just follow through these steps and everything will work like a link to the desktop :)

1) open windows explorer

2) Click on the view menu and click folder options go to the view tab and make sure that it doesn't hide file extensions for known file types.

3) go to this folder in windows explorer C: windows -> SendTo

4) On the file menu goto New -> Text document and call the document Desktop as Shortcut.DESKLINK

5) Press enter and then make shortcuts to the desktop to your hearts content.

I did as you said, and it works sometimes.  It is flaky about sending exe files to desktop.  I also have two sendto desktops on rt click.  Is there a way to deleat both sendto's and start over?

I do not understand it wrks sometimes?

thanks

If it you have two delete the wrong one, if you don't know which it is then delete them both and make them both again.

Cheers

Simple, centralized multimedia control

I did that, deleated both send to's for shortcut.  I made another it just says "shortcut".  It will not send exe files to desktop, it will send txt files and some others but for some reason it will not place a shortcut to an exe file on the desktop.

tom,

Does it still let you create shortcuts to exe's the long way round?

Have you got tweakui installed?

Yes, I can still make shortcuts the long way.  And yes I do have tweakui installed.

It appears that everything work "except" the send to desktop as a shortcut.  I can send, help files and graphics to the desktop, but for some reason exe files seem to resist it.

If you use tweakui to repair all the file associations and everything else that it can, is worth a try.
