In the March issue of Mobile Computing & Communications, in a review of Dell's Latitude Notebook, they said they could not get the serial mouse to work. Dell says they "haven't heard of any problems".  Who's right? I'd like to buy a Dell but I plan to use a mouse as I don't care for touchpads. And what about Dell's Inspiron Notebook? Thank you.

You can connect a ps/2 type mouse on the Dell latitude.

Serial mouse sometimes don't work - that is the case with certain combinations of serial ports and mice.  Connecting a serial mouse to a pc is not a good thing, technically speaking (the mouse derives it's power supply from the signal lines of the serial port, which are not meant for this use).

The inspiron notebooks also have a ps/2 connector

If possible, stick by ps/2 mouse - which is technically a better system.
