Download the source code of Windows Developer's Journal August 1997 issue (ftp://ftp.mfi.com/pub/windev/1997/aug97.zip). Extract the patersn.zip in the zip file. You'll get the gotourl.c. The code you want is the code to be executed if ShellExecute fails in the GotoURL function. The idea is to get the full path name of the default browser from the registry. Then use WinExec to run it with the URL. In Win32, it is recommended to use CreateProcess instead of WinExec.
