I want to display a splash screen before my MDI form to show up

A splash screen is just a normal form. Show a form other than your MDIForm first, then after a certain amount of time, unload it and load the MDIForm.

Use teh Application Wizard and check the Splash screen box. It will generate a splash screen and show you how (and where) to call it.
