This has been an intermittent problem for me...I've noticed that on certain games..If I load them onto drive D: ( a separate drive slaved to the master c:)..the game quits to the desktop...when I reinstall the game onto C: ..everythings fine..This occurs even for games which allow me to change the destination directory!..Is this a hardware or OS issue that I'm not understanding? What causes a game that allows for a chosen destination dir to only work on C:\ drive?

This is a simple OS fault in combination with the initial setup of the game. I am sure this is not for all the games but maybe for a specific one. For some games it is default written that c: is the master hard drive and s/w of the game goes to ask information from c:. When it cannot find the necessary info then it quits to desktop. You need to change the .exe file of the game.

How can I change the .exe? of a program? w/o a decompile? which would be very difficult?

Changing the exe would also be illegal.

What memser may have meant is to change the shortcut that points to the game.

Specifically, right click on the shortcut and select Properties. On the Shortcut Tab, you will "Start in:" with a space next to it. Fill the space with the name of the directory that contains the executables for the program.
