how to install from floppy disk ?

Suppose i have a utility for linux on my floppy disk and i
want to install it on linux. how can i do that ?

mount the floppy (ie. mount /dev/fd0 /floppy - see "man mount" for details).

if it is a binary, copy it to the right location (ie. /bin or /sbin or /usr/bin or /usr/sbin ...).

type in the name and... it should run.

if it is a rpm-package change to the mounted directory and do something like "rpm -i utility.rpm".

if it is a tar-ball (tar.gz, tgz, tar.Z, ...) you will have to copy it to some directory (perhaps /tmp/tarball) and do a "tar xvfz utility.tar.gz" from there. afterwards follow the instructions, that should come with the tar-ball.
