How would I detect if America Online is connected or not?

You could just see if the Welcome windows hwnd is available and if so, then your connected, if not, then you are not.....

go to the following site:

Download the bas file called Spyder.

Add the bas to your project. Then from your form call the AOLIsOnline function. It will return TRUE if AOL is online.
You might want to modify the bas function so that the messagebox does not appear if the value is FALSE
