Avoiding the new document @ Word startup

I know that under Word97 on WIN95/98 I can defeat the initial blank document by starting Word using the /n switch (e.g. <WINWORD.EXE /n>).

I'd like to achieve the same thing on the Mac (OS8) - any ideas?

In the preferences/options, it's quite possible that there is an option to have the program do different things at startup. Have you explored this option?
