RowCount is a protected property of TCustomGrid, from which TDBGrid inherits.  Therfore if you 'specialize' TDBGrid as follows you will be able to get the row count.

type
  TYourDBGrid = class(TDBGrid)
    public
      property RowCount;
end;//
