telnetd and DNS

Just wondering if there was a way to stop telnetd from looking up client hostnames before starting a session?
Because for unlisted hosts, it will take 3 mins to timeout before beginning, very annoying.
Platforms: Solaris/AIX/Linux

Thanks a heap.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

this is not a telnetd but a problem of resolving names.
Check your DNS, and/or /etc/resolv.conf, i.e. order of consulted services like: nis, dns, files etc.

Shouldn't this be checked in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file?
