sound problem

Hello fine folks. Just reinstalled win98 three days ago. After an initial couple of error messages{I Think something like kernel} everything has been fine. However last night, when i went to play a cd-rom{cookbook} The sound was barely there. I used this rom the day before with no problem the day before. I reinstaled the sound card {soundblaster} drivers and everything was fine. What would cause this to happen and is it something to be concerned about.
Thank You

Actually no there shouldn't be anything to worry about. This can happen for any number of reasons, such as a reboot didn't load one of the sound card devices or load a driver entirely. It happens frequently. Sometimes a required restart is missed because the window is hidden beneath another window.

Your approach was correct in that you merely reloaded the drivers without anything else going on. If, after several fresh starts, everything appears normal, you should be fine.

You may want to go into Control Panel, click the system icon and then go into device manager and make sure all of the devices appear normal, in that there are no yellow exclamation marks or red marks that denote an error or problem.
