Thanks for the help (not solved yet, please see additional comments);
And, yes I would like to uninstall IE and make Netscape my first browser; it probably is, but where does it say so?

You can't really uninstall IE with effecting the performance of your system, but you can install Netscape and when asked, select it as your default browser.

Also, if you wish, you can withdraw this question and accept the original and I'll spilt the points with Mattcei.

I've found the solution and don't reallly want to uninstall either Nscape or IE now.
The program I wanted to use has intentionally been blocked by the uni (they didn't tell anybody, though!).
Anyway, that's what I was told today (by the first live person to respond from their Helpdesk).
Thanks, and the question is now closed.

Indeed the question is closed. I really hadn't expected a C grade for helping you, but it will be remembered!
