In the Options menu of each browser you will find an option to have IE5/Netscape Always Check if it is the Default Browser. Make sure this is selected. Then whenever you start the non-default browser, you will be prompted whether to make it the default or not

Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab. There is a checkbox at the bottom that says 'Internet Explorer should always check to see whether it is the default browser'
