I have a combobox with a list of string items, and I'd like to let the user select a number of items, dependant on another text field (with a number of items to select). I can't find any member function that allows multiple selection?

In the Resouce Editor, do Properties/Styles/Selection and choose Multiple.

Nope, my mistake.  That doesn't work for combo box.  Reject it.

Are you sure you want to use a combo box for this and not a list box?  The combo box is going to show the current selection in the edit field.  You might have to make your own control from a list box and an edit control.

Well, what I wanted to do was just have a list type box, but keep most of it hidden (so by using a Combobox). I would let the user pick the items they wanted, and then I have a related editbox that builds the items together into a word string, and display that fully.....hmmmm.

Let me see if I understand what you want:

1. You want a drop-down combo box?
2. When the user selects an item or word from the list, you want it appended to the edit portion of the combox box?
3. After selecting an item, you want the drop-down combo box to disappear so the user has to drop down the list each time an additional item is selected?
4. Do you want these previously selected items to be highlighted when the user drops down the list?

Hmmmm, you raise good questions/points.
It would be nice if the combobox would stay open until the user has selected all they want to select (but how would it know?). Then, in a seperate edit box, I would assemble all of these selections together. Now that I think about it, it seems kinda cumbersome, and probably difficult to implement for what its worth.

Maybe I'll use some kind of ListBox, and make it small so it doesn't take up too much room......

It usually doesn't pay to get too creative with controls.  It makes it harder for the user to get used to unfamilar controls.
