I can print from all other applications within Linux
It is only in WP8 that the printer is not available.
I can print from WP8 using a text only printer.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you Kennys.  I didn't have WP8 installed
to further examine your problem.  I just installed WP8 today and know what
you mean now.  The problem is WP8 tried to communicate directly with the
printer rather than using Linux's printing facilities.   WP8 requires special
printer drivers... seems to favor Postscript printers as is the case with most
UNIX applications.   Give me some time to look into this more and I'll see what
I find.  I have an Epson 600 and would like to use WP8 too.  So I'm in the
same boat as you right now.

Kennys, download that file.  You'll need to be in Windows or DOS to extract it.
One extracted, you'll have a file called: WP60DM01.ALL

Move this file into Linux and rename it to
2 things you should notice.  It's all lowercase and has the
us added.  Move this file to the shlib10 directory in the
WP8 installation directory.

Now, inside of WP8:

Go Into File --> Print
Hit select under Current Printer
Hit Printer Create/Edit in the dialog that pops up
Hit Add
Select a Printer that works for you, my Stylus 600 is
much identical to yours except it's slower.  I chose
the Stylus Color driver.  It won't support all the
features of our printer, but it can print well and in
Hit Ok
After Adding, be sure to select the printer and Click Setup.
In Printer Setup, give it a destination.  The LPR, radio
box should be clicked.  lp is your best bet and $PRINTER
is a good 2nd bet.
Click OK to everything to close all the dialog windows.

You should now be able to Print.  I test printed with
tables, a color filled box, variable sized fonts in bold,
italics, etc... came out very nice!  except for the fact
that the color was clearly dithered.  Unless you're printing
photos, the output quality should be acceptable.  If not,
try a different driver.  Stylus Color seemed the closest
choice to me.

Hope this works for you.  It worked for me and now I'm
up and running WP8 even though I had never planned on using
it.  =)  I've noticed it was written in Motif and is VERY
sluggish.  Ever considered Applixware or StarOffice?
StarOffice is just as sluggish, but seems a bit better
and is a whole office suite.

Many thanks for your clear and concise answer.
I am now printing in glorious colour.

My spelling of the word COLOUR may give you a clue
to the one glitch I had.

Where I renamed the file to it still
never showed in the list of printers !!!

I ,of course, realised that I had to change it to
wp60dm01.UK.all for Britain.

Again thanks for the answer to my problem. This, to
me, is what the Internet is all about.
