If you are in frame1 and you want to get a value from a form in frame2:

<SCRIPT language='JavaScript'>
  alert( top.frame2.forms[0].nameofyourelement.value );
</script>

using parent should be fine as well:

parent.frame2.forms[0].nameofyourelement.value;
