Sometimes when I download a file I get an option of open .
When I click on open I get a message,"can not find program".
I select browse and then WinZip.Press enter and up comes the
message,"can not find c:\ WinZip\program."
No matter what I do I end up with the can not find message.
The downloaded file must be in memory as I can not find any trace of it on my hard drive and there is no way I can save it.
I always download to desktop and normaly the file is left there and can be dealt with by installing or unzipping. Why am I losing about a quarter of my downloads?
I have a feeling I am asking something everybody knows but it's got me beaten
Your help would be much appreciated. JACK GRUSCHOW

hmm... well this could be a number of things, but first I will ask what kind of icon the files your trying to open have?  most likely they are files that need a certain program to open them and which you might not have?  Does a window pop up asking you what program you want to use to open the file?  if so the file format is not recognized meaning the program normally used to view it is not on your system or not found by your system.  What is the extension of the file?  example... .zip, .exe, .txt

The files do not have an icon. All I see is the notification card telling me that downloading is complete, followed by another card giving me the option of opening the file.I click on it and get the  'can't find program" message. If the file is anywhere on my hard drive I can not find it.I can not remember the names of these programs, but one that did it this morning was Tweakui.zip.
My normal practice is to specify that download come to "desktop",and they usualy do. J.G.

Sounds like .zip files are not associated with the winzip.exe.

No.No messages.Just the card giving the options, open, send to file ,close. Selecting open gives the message,"can not find C:\program." selecting file gives,"You have chosen desk top" and close, well I lose everything.
Zip files are associated with WinZip.
The file I am troubled with at the moment is TWEAKI.exe.
This problem arises with about 23% of attempted downloads

Never done that, but you should have the option somewhere on your question screen

There is nowhere on the sheet to accept or reject an answer.
None of the suggestions offered have done anything to change the situation.  J.G.
