X under an i740

Has anyone successfully got X to run under an AGP i740 graphics card in Debain?  Or any other distribution for that matter, but debian or Red Hat 5/6 would be my pick.  No way could I get X under Red Hat 5.

Sorry.  I haven't used Linux much and have never used X.  What is mandrake?  I just installed an X server that claimed to be compliant, got drivers, checked the kernel support AGP cards etc.  When that didn't work I called a friend whio claimed to be a Linux guru, but he couldn't get it either.  I just want to be able to run X.  What do I need?

In redhat there are a special X-Server that you have to download from Redhat, it doesn't come with any dristribution.

The i740 chipset is supported by XFree86, version 3.3.4, which has just been released. Additional information is available at www.xfree86.org, including installation instructions.

You may download the relevant files from : ftp.xfree86.org

Binaries for linux-iX86 are available.

If you do not want to use tgz. files, you may wait until RPM packages of version 3.3.4, or the upcoming 3.3.5, are released.

An alternative is to use the XBF binary-only or XFCom pre-compiled binary X-servers for this chipset, available at:

http://rufus.w3.org/linux/RPM

You may also find these RPM packages via:  www.tuxfinder.com

Cheers,

Howard Mann.
