Installation of LAN PC card in a PC laptop

hi!There is a 3 year old "Magitronic" PC laptop for which I need to install 10/100 LAN PC card(3com).I followed the instructions in the manual but I see the yellow exclamation mark in device manager under new hardware.when I spoke to the customer service they said I had to disable if any existing PCI card.I dont think there is anything else besides the new one I have installed.I am unable to get into bios to disable the PCI card.at the boot up there is an error message which says unable to load msnp32.dll which diappears when I click ok.
any ideas will be appreciated,
Thank you.

A)
- In device manager, delete your network card.
- Shutdwon your machine. Power off.
- Power on. Boot with Win 95 or 98.
- The card must be detected and install is automatic.
- Check your device manager.

If your card  has a yellow exclamation mark in device manager, you have a conflict with another device :
Check I/O, DMA, IRQ and mem.
Try with another I/O space , IRQ .... ( choose manual settings )

B) Use latest drivers ( disk, internet or Win98 drivers).
Verify driver / card . Identify your card and load new drivers.

More details please ...

You can have conflict with "old"ISA card.
Make a try without ISA card ....
Many problem with ISA Pnp Card and PCI ...

You say the computer is a Laptop; is the card a PCMCIA card?
If not, are you using a docking station?

All new NIC cards come as P&P. A lot of them won't install as P&P but, need to be set in jumperless mode so you can manually set the I/O address & IRQ.

To do this you need the Utility that frache suggested. It should be listed on the floppy as an executable file.
