Reinstall your original diagonally-cut SCSI card. You might as well use what the manufacturer designed for. You won't need to install any drivers for it; that's not your problem. (I just opened the box for a new 1200S to verify that there is no driver disk for the SCSI card. Trust me.)

My suspicion is that you have not properly terminated your SCSI chain, and that is why things aren't working. You should have been given a SCSI terminator (looks like the end of a 25 pin cable without the cable. If you are not attaching any other SCSI devices to your computer you need to stick that terminator onto the back of the scanner into the plug that's beside the one the SCSI cable is in. Once that is in place you should be able to run the setup program (if it wasn't run by the outfit that sold you the scanner/system).

By the way, there's a real gotcha if you are installing this scanner with Windows 98. Head to the UMAX web site for information about a possible showstopper and how to get around it. It doesn't appear you have encountered it yet, so I'm not going to bother taking the time to document it here. But you are alerted to it now!!!

Thanks for the suggestion!!  However, the scanner does have a terminator and I removed/replaced it when I first tried to resolve the problems on my own.  Since, I have tried a few different things, none of which worked.  Went to a local store and picked up the same type of card, installed it and now it works.  I'm guessing something happened to the old card.  Thanks for your help 'pbarnes' and Ex-Ex.  Till next time...
