Hello:
I have a i430TX-NS309-2859IQ1GC-00 Bios on my QDI MB.  To make this more 'user-friendly' let's call it P5I430TX Titanium IB+ Bios chip, the MB is no longer supported by my manufacturer and I need to upgrade the Bios.
Does anyone know where I can obtain this bios on the Web, I have gotten in touch with Awards BIOS and have not yet heard answer to my question.

Thank you,
Stipey

BIOS upgrades are best obtained at the manufacturer site, as (as mentioned in the Award site) they usually make some modifications. In your case try it at:

I would like another answer from Cri besides the first one, though the first is acceptable, I have already run that route and am looking for alternative routes.  Thank you.

Stipey, duh..., my proposed answer overlooked that your clear statement that the manufacturer does not support the MB, therefore my answer hardly can be 'acceptable' (sometimes one can be a bit too nice to be understood...).

If the OEM site does not have it for download, try to contact them, but probably you have already done that too. If not even an unofficial upgrade/patch is available there, then I think you will not have much luck to find it somewhere else. I doubt that anyone (besides the OEM) has the knowhow+motivation+MB_specific_details to program a BIOS for _your_ brand. Look if the company you bought the PC from has a site, the big chains sometimes have BIOS upgrades too. Not that I expect that they will have yours, but it will give a bit more weight if you try to persuade AWARD or the OEM to support you.

Perhaps there is a work-around short of exchanging the MB: Why do you need upgrade the BIOS ?

PS: Your question was hit by the new E-E site bug. According to the blue title the question is either locked or open but I see an accepted _and_ proposed answer field. Was already reported.

Hi Cri!!
Just went baqck on the QDI Home PAge, the one that you posted and they did indeed have an upgrade to the BIOS, for my MB.  Only prob. it is from June 5, 1998, slightly older than I anticipated.  Also, it did give me some Upgrades that I found to be most useful for the most part, still didn't take care of the USB in the BIOS program, it says only that I can have USB support for my keyboard either Disbaled or Enabled, not for any other devices, so, I pose this one to you, what now!!?!?!?!?!  (:
That is why I need the Upgrade to get *FULL* Bios supposrt from WITHIN the Bios, not just WIN98.
   Thanks, Stipey

Stipey thanks for accepting the answer. The question might be answered but your problem persists, no USB support from BIOS.
a) It is not clear from your last post whether you found the BIOS upgrade with searching their site or whether their technical support gave the best they had for your MB. If it was the first, write them an e-mail. Ask them for if they have a newer update which does not show up (yet...) on their site. If the BIOS chip is socketed and not welded on, ask about replacing the chip, if the doc is unclear or you do not want to open the casing, ask them with which chip you can replace the old one. If welded and no official update: Ask whether they have an unsupported inhouse BIOS to be installed at your own risk.

b) As for the USB: Does not look like this MB had this feature when you bought it. Did you add a card ? IF yes what does its documentation/internet site say about 'older' MB ? Did you look around for alternative products ?

c) Do you already have the hardware you want to connect with USB ?

Ok, let me make sure I have it all down now!!!!!  (:  According to the QDI HP, this board, a Socket 7 MB, is *supposed* to be USB ready, and of course a USB adapter has been installed onto the MB itself. The last one that I got off the Site was dated, June 5, 1998.  The latest one I could find.  I have emailed them but as of yet have had no reply

I was hoping for the FLASH as I'm not at all crazy about the 'pop the cover' deal, can do it and have done it, just for information here, I'm a certified PC Technician.

From prices that I have obtained from extremely reliable sources, I could just about buy a board for what the chip, etc. would cost me.  The reason for looking for the Flash, the fact that QDI states that this particular MB is USB supported anyway makes this a rather interesting adventure!!!!!  (-:

Thanks again   Stipey

Stipey, if you want 'adventure' then you _must_ replace the BIOS chip, especially if it is soldered to the circuitry... And, do you live downunder ? Wondering why your emoticons are reversed...
Jokes besides, I do not think I can help you much further.

PS: Consider registering as E-E expert, even if you 'only' want to pose questions. By putting some lines regarding your PC know-how in your profile this would facilitate and speed up the communications a great deal, especially if you have a pro's like dew_associates 'on the line'.

Nope, not from down under, just a little on the 'different' side, you might say!!!!!!  (-;
