Unknow icon?

Ok when I open a file using the 'open with' option I get a list of porgrams I can open it with.
At the top of the list is a blank icon without a name next to it.

What I like to know is why is it they, and how do I get rid of it??

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

dark_shadow,
Go to the Start-Settings-Folder Options-File Types-

There are Registered File types. Highlight each icon with name,
You will see File type details
Opens with:

On the left side is the "icon" of "Opens with" program.
On the right side is the name (executable file name of the program) of "Opens with" program.

Check the corresponding icon, if no name for the "Opens with" program.

Select that curious icon, click the [Edit], to check if any related program is running. If there is, try to change the icon to the default icon for that program.

Or if there is no link of program, just select the curious icon in the file type and click [remove].

Lab_Rat, I cannot found such a weird icon in my computers. Perhaps let me know more about your computer's environment which may help me to search if any related. How the icon looks like? Any other related messages listed in the file association?        pslh

Dark, that first little box you see in "Open With", presuming that I am seeing what you are, is a small box with a few dots at the top of it. That is the default applications "open with" and is reserved for open applications, such as exe, com etc.

Dew if that's right then I shound leave it alone??

Stange thing is it wasn't there until I started adding other programs (no I don't know which one make it) and I have gotten ride of it before (just don't know how I did it)

Dark, you can leave it alone, as a matter of fact, if you delete it you may have problems with some of the new COM files being created on the WWW for use in IE5. This is created during the IE5 update process, and no doubt if you went to a site using the new COM, IE would probably go to an error or ask you to install the missing feature depending upon how your system was setup.

Ok it'll go with that, but I don't have IE5.
I got IE4 (the one that comes with win98) but I have put in some of the patchs off the update site so that maybe it.
