I'm trying to figure out a problem my friend is having with his computer.  It can play .wav and .mid files but can't play CDs.  I removed and then reinstalled all of the multimedia components using the Win98 cd.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
JRhea

JRhea, Try to check the cdrom - at the back near the connector, there is a AUX output jack. Have your friend connected the AUX output with a cable to his sound card.

Go to the Multimedia of control panel, CDMusic, is it now set the default CD-Rom drive is the right CDrom drive letter.  Moreover, go to the Audio Tab of Multimedia, Click the sound icon of Playback, Options -properties - Playback, select the option [x] CD Audio.

----
Try to inspect his computer if he has installed WinAmp or similar ones etc... sound softwares that has overrided the function CD Player.

pslh,

The cable connecting the CD-Rom and sound card isn't there.  My dad built this pc from scratch and forgot that minor detail. :-)  I'll buy a cable later today.  Thanks for your help.  Please post something as an answer so I can give you the points.

Thanks again,
JRhea
