I have a client using a Progress 83b database. Is there a better way than using an OpenLink ODBC connection?
I have not been impressed with the reliability of that connection.

Hi bozo, it just happend that we have evaluated the Progress DBMS and we have been told that the only "not-native" way to access it is by using ODBC (one reason we finally reject it). It is a very proprietary solution and not widely supported as oracle, Informix or at least Interbase...

hi bozo,
you could use the Intersolv drivers, these are 3rd party drivers but very fast.  We've developed once an application in VB on Progress (it was even placed on a Unix server) and this was very fast.  The drivers aren't cheap, but if your client has the money ...
We haven't yet developed with Delphi on Progress, so no information about that but this probably wouldn't be a problem in Delphi 5 using ADO

good luck

Intersolv is known for their ODBC drivers but they are still ODBC/JDBC, nothing native-fancy...

Try www.intersolv.com for more information.

what Lischke mentioned is true, these are ODBC drivers, I don't know if any native drivers exist, don't think so
