You are going to have to have the booting Hard drive on the Primary Master. The reason it fails is it is looking for a master device on that primary IDE. Your Bios may see the Hard drive on IDE2 as secondary master or slave but you will not be able to boot to the secondary with out a primary master. if you are trying to conserve your secondary IDE for future Hard drives just make your Harddrive master on IDE1 and the CD-Rom slave on IDE1 with a double IDE data ribbon.
