Appending field to an open recordset.

Here is what I need:

I need to retrieve a set of records with 5 fields in the recordset.
I need to append an extra field to this retrieved recordset.
MS says this is not possible, at least not using APPEND.
Any other ideas (other than the obvious idea of copying all data to a new recordset, field by field...)

I would really prefer some sort of an example, if possible.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Very nice!  Absolutely perfect... thanks... I'm increasing the points to 150, just because the answer is so sweet.  If you only get the original 100, let me know, I'll send you the other 50.
