"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Is recycle bin gone or is it changed to another icon? Just cold boot PC if it has been changed.

Ezy2,

In Registry Editor, go to the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\
NameSpace\

You should see this key:

{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

In the right window of regedit, you should see "name" as default and "data" as "Recycle Bin"

Also, check to make sure that the Recycle Bin folder has not been deleted.

To validate the desktop icon, find a reference to Recycle Bin in the Registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\

The key should be:

{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
