How to Start 3D Max

1. I wanted to learn 3D max, it comes with four manual/books(I suppose). I know nothing about 3D max. In what sequence should I start(Reference, manual or volume tutorial etc). I mean to say what to read first and so on.
2. How much time should I give to each one.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

That is up to you, you can only learn at your own pace.  Also there are a lot of concepts that are quite hard to get to grips with. If I was you I would enrol of a course so you have a structured approach to learning 3d studio max. If that is not an option buy a good 3dstudio max introductory book i.e not the ones that come with program.

hope this helps a bit

I have purchased a set 3dMax Inside 3 vol set NewRiders, but I think it is not what manuals teach us. From the material that comes with 3Dmax which one should be read first and then second..

You do like 3D MAX a lot huh ?? umm... if you want a good start... read the 3DMAX Inside 3 Vol firsttt !!!... usually it came up with lots of practice... then if you're quite familiar with 3D MAX or feel tired reading that thick book... move to Volume Tutorial (from kinetix ??)... the reference and manual book is only for you to refer if you have problems with MAX... hope this can guide you rite!

In Volume one, the author talks about a concept then the result. Does not tell how to do that example step by step. Because a novice does not know how to go about the steps to see waht author wants to convey. Dont u think that the manuals that comes with max are of any use for begining the work?????????????
